Destination Wedding (2018) – Review

The is a typical romantic story of Frank (Keanu Reeves) and Lindsay (Winona Ryder), a miserable, middle aged pair that are coupled together for a wedding they were both initially reluctant to attend, but after bonding over their mutual hatred of pretty much everything, they develop an affection towards each other. An okay movie, especially if you’re hoping to kill some time – Destination Wedding is currently streaming on Netflix.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Director: Victor Levin
Writers: Victor Levin
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder

As far as romantic comedies go and their complexity, the plot for this was as simple and easily predictable as most in the same genre, but it’s fair to say that it still had its fun and enjoyable moments that are capable of making you smile at any time. If you’re a fan of dry humour and somewhat broken characters who have an extremely bleak outlook on life, then this could be right up your street.

Casting Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder was a smart move by the powers that be, as many viewers may have struggled to like a different pairing in this one – especially as the charismatic duo have starred in more than one movie together and clearly have solid chemistry, as demonstrated here.

As the movie developed, the filmmakers did a good job in making the blossoming relationship seem authentic. The pair often found themselves paired together, whether it be at the dinner rehearsal, weekend activities or at the top of a hill after being chased by a mountain lion. Some of the scenery was pleasing on the eye too, which made it all that more watchable.

Needless to say Keanu and Winona are superb together. They were comfortable and relaxed but more than anything, it seemed like they were having fun making the movie itself. A half decent watch which is capable of killing some time.
